Melur & Thyme, KLCC

In-conjunction of celebrating our final exam paper for this semester, we decided to have lunch at Melur & Thyme, KLCC yesterday. This was also a farewell lunch celebration for Iru as yesterday marked her second last day here in Malaysia. She has been one consistent friend I have had throughout the past 3 semesters. She has been persistently in making sure that we did well for all of our assignments. I owe her big time!! She will definitely be missed!

I am definitely make a visit to Maldives, Insya Allah!

So anyway, back to Melur & Thyme. This was actually my first time dining at the restaurant. I have been wanting to eat there for the longest time. It has a very interesting interior and they serve fusion food - East meets West kinda of food.

Overall, I give 3.5 for creativity but the food ..... 2.5 out of 5. Definitely not recommending this to you people unless if you desperately need to eat fusion food.

For those who love duck or lamp, well they have variety of selection from satay to Grilled lamb. Iru have Duck Satay (small size). She likes it though (because she loves duck)

They serve it with buns too. I guess it's the East meets West kinda thing - Satay and the buns.

Mine was the Grilled Herb Chicken. The chicken tastes so-so, a bit dry and hard. But I kind of like the sauce though!

Jojo ordered a baby crab that comes together with a plate of white rice. As what it is called, a baby crab, the crab really is in a baby sized crab.

At very restaurants that I go, desserts have always been the food that I'm looking forward to. And as for Melur & Thyme, I was looking forward for the Chocolate lava cake, unfortunately, they don't serve it yesterday. So I went for the brownies.

Again, I was disappointed that they can't serve the brownie with vanilla ice-cream. They replaced it with chocolate ice-cream instead. Chocolate brownie with chocolate ice-cream doesn't goes well. Muak kot! And the brownie was a bit dry too.

Jojo ordered the Carrot Cake. According to her, the cake was a bit dry and she doesn't like it.

Overall, the food is just so-so. Hence, no recommendation for this. But if you insist on having to dine at Melur & Thyme, they are at the Ground Floor (same floor and row as Maxis), opposite Harrods cafe and located next to the exit where pick-up & drop off area (Isetan entrance).

Coffee Addict 101

I am a coffee lover. I consume 2 cups a day averagely. Sometimes more depending on my activities for that particular day. And it has become a habit for me to drink a cup of coffee every morning before I start my day else, I won't be functioning well. Well, I guess this is all psychology. Kalau tak minum coffee, otak tak jalan. But that has become my natural habit. I do get a serious headache if I don't have my usual coffee in the morning and it will be all gone once I have my first sip. Psychology lagi di situ. Mind you that my cup is not the regular small cup size. My cup is the big diameter cup size which last me for 2 hours at least.

I can't really remember how I get myself addicted to it. No one teaches me to drink coffee but I remember started consuming it more seriously during my uni years. Being an art & design student requires a long hours of staying up all night to complete the assignments hence the coffee to make sure that I keep myself awake. I guess, I developed my love for coffee from there. This love I have has caused me a life disappointment as I had to reduce and cut-down my coffee in take due to pregnancy. Agak meroyan jugak di situ. I even consulted my gynae to check if I can still consume coffee even during pregnancy - that was how much love I have for it. No compromise when it comes to coffee.

Semenjak dah berduit sendiri ni, bila-bila rasa nak beli coffee mahal pon tak kesah dah. Coffee mahal means a small cup of coffee that cost more than a plate of mixed rice.

Someone posted this acticle on Facebook entitled "Why The Best Time To Drink Coffee Is Not First Thing In The Morning". Terasa tercabar sikit di situ because clearly, coffee is what I consumed first thing in the morning.

Tersentap sikit membaca sebab all this while, I have been consuming coffee at the wrong timing which in the long run will damage my body system. I shall not elaborate more, have a read on what is written on the article.

-------------------------------------------------------

Drinking a cup of coffee first thing in the morning blunts the energy-boosting effects of caffeine and may lead to increased tolerance of the stimulant. This counterintuitive fact is explained in engaging visual form by Ryoko Iwata, “a Japanese coffee-lover living in Seattle” on her appropriately titled blog, I Love Coffee. Iwata based her post on research gathered by Steven Miller, a Ph.D. candidate at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda.

Everybody is different, of course, but we are all guided by the 24-hour hormonal cycle referred to as the circadian clock. These basic rhythms are pre-programmed into us genetically and although we can mess with our cycles through lifestyle habits, the major factor in their regulation is sunlight. One of the things that this clock controls in humans is the release of the hormone called cortisol which makes us feel alert and awake.

Here’s the thing. The peak production of cortisol occurs between 8–9 am (under normal circumstances.) This means that at the time that many people are having their first cup of coffee on the way to work, their bodies are actually “naturally caffeinating” the most effectively! According to Iwata, the effects of caffeine consumption at times of peak cortisol levels actually diminishes the effectiveness of the additional stimulation. Worse still, “By consuming caffeine when it is not needed, your body will build a faster tolerance to it, and the buzz you get will greatly diminish.”
Cortisol is also considered a stress-related hormone and consumption of caffeine has been shown to increase the production of cortisol when timed at periods of peak cortisol levels. An increased tolerance for caffeine can therefore lead to heightened cortisol levels which can disturb circadian rhythms and have other deleterious effects on your health.
Iwata, as her blog title suggests, loves coffee and has articulated what she considers to be the optimal timing of your coffee intake to experience maximum enjoyment with minimal negative effects. The times of peak cortisol levels in most people are between 8-9 am, 12-1 pm and 5:30-6:30 pm. Therefore, timing your “coffee breaks” (an apt term) between 9:30-11:30 and 1:30 and 5:00 takes advantage of the dips in your cortisol levels when you need a boost the most

The best times to drink coffee are when your cortisol levels naturally dip. These are, in fact, traditional “coffee break” times.

Put this way, the traditional idea of a “coffee break” makes a lot of sense. I almost wonder if the idea of having coffee first thing is a habit instilled by the coffee industry to get us to all drink more coffee! What Iwata’s chart does not take into account is coffee consumption by early risers before 8 am, when many of us have our first cups. This raises the question of whether to have three coffees a day (probably too much for most people) or to forgo one of the periods Miller’s research suggests.

Iwata’s delightful blog has other pleasures as well. There is a post about an app that simulates the audio ambience of a cafĂ© for those who find it a productive work environment, a comparison of the beneficial attributes of beer vs. coffee (she likes both!) and a spot on assessment of what your coffee preference reveals about your personality. For now, my cortisol is kicking in but I’ll wait for later to have a second cup.

-------------------------------------------------------

Well, what is written above makes sense and I guess I have to work myself towards the right coffee time. Tapi kadang-kadang pergi melepak dengan kawan-kawan pon minum coffee jugak which celarly past 6:30pm?

I guess, it depends on individual as well. As long as you know how to control or to balance your intake between the caffeinated drink (in this case, it's coffee) with plain water, it should be fine.

Allah SWT: Tidak menyekutu & tidak dimenyekutui

There has been a lot of tension going on about the usage of ALLAH in the bible. This was brought up by the irresponsible politicians over the issue of the East Malaysian Christians having the ALLAH name in their BM copy of the bible. And with the recent incident of JAIS raiding the headquarters of the Bible Society of Malaysia has made the issue grew bigger which created hatred among the extremist society of Islam with the Christians in Malaysia.

As a concerned citizen of Malaysia, I am honestly worried about this. This may leads to the same incident we had in 1969 which was caused due to the differences in religions and beliefs. We are in the 22nd century, issues like this were not supposed to be raised anymore.

I believe in unity and Islam has taught us so well to respect each other despite their religions and beliefs. If your base is strong, you shouldn't be threaten if someone were to say the other things about your religion. You should stand strong with what you believe in.

Islam has taught us that Allah itu Satu and tiada yang lain selain Allah. Allah tidak menyekutu dan tidak dimenyekutui. And if someone says that Jesus is the son of God and the God is Allah because their religion has taught them that, why must you be threaten or confused because you already know that it is wrong? This shows that you have a very weak base. One should be polishing their faith and build their base as strong as possible so that with a simple statement like that won't confuse you. This also shows that your learning and faith in Islam is not strong at all. Nauzubillah.

I believe in Islam. And to be honest, this whole ALLAH issue was brought up for political reasons. And to who ever who raised this should be burned in hell, I'm no kidding! How could you do this.

I found a very interesting and logic explanation on the usage of ALLAH and I hope this clears the air.

This is based on my personal point of view. Kalau silap tolong ajarkan. Saya budak masih belajar. Walla'hualam.

MH: Malaysian Hospitality

As written clearly on the title, this is going to be one biased article on Malaysian Airlines. No, I was not paid to write this article nor I was hired to do so. This is solely based on my past experiences boarding on both MAS and Air Asia and totally on my personal point of view.

Yes, no doubt Air Asia is THE No. 1 Low Cost Carrier airline in the world but to be honest, their services are still not THE No. 1 just yet. No doubt that within 10 years, they have grown so much; expending their destinations to more than 50 routes (and I think, they are more than that), liked by most people and I totally agreed with what they stand for - "Now Everyone Can Fly" which is a huge success especially for Malaysia Airline industry. They created positive competitions not just to MAS but to other full service airlines as well as the low cost ones. They are very competitive. They know their market well - They know Malaysia market very well hence the tremendous growth. However, the low cost title leads them on having the low cost services.

I'm not a frequent traveler. But I can be considered as their every year passenger for both of the airlines. I check on their fares every now and then. I'll definitely purchase their tickets if I find it attractive. You know lah, Malaysian travelers really opt for cheap fares and I'm one of them. Raya is my favourite time to purchase air tickets because we go back to Kedah with it but I have to say, my priority is always on MAS. I don't mind paying a little bit extra just to fly with them.

I've traveled on long haul with both airlines before and because of that, my loyalty for MAS increases. If you opt for comfort, well MAS has it. In fact, they have it all especially when you have to travel together with your children. Due to the bad experience I had recently traveling to Sydney with Air Asia, it made me not want to travel with them anymore. I guess my expectation for them was very high and I was expecting an A class services from them else why THE No. 1 title? Unfortunately, it wasn't as expected. Very disappointing.

I'm actually not sure where this post leads but my point is, looking at the recent report on MAS, I really hope that they can improve especially on their services. People have been making bad remarks on them especially on how their crews have been treating the guests. They should be carrying the good name of Malaysia because they are the first brand that foreign travelers seen on Malaysia. And the report on MAS not making money doesn't make sense at all. Never have I seen an empty flight on local or international destinations and how can they not making money? They really have to improve that area though!

Dah merepek dah ni but as a loyal MAS traveler, I have so much faith in you and I really wish that you can serve us better.

With this doesn't mean that I will not travel with Air Asia. I will somehow ...... will. MAS don't have flights to Krabi, no? And I don't totally don't like Air Asia. I hope with the launch of KLIA 2 will somehow improve Air Asia's services. They have the potential to grow and their services have to grow too. The trust is not there yet - for me that is!

This is solely based on my experiences and my personal point on view. Apology if it offended you my dear readers. We have our own preferral on certain brands/products and I can say that MAS is my preferred brand. You may have different opinion towards this but this is mine.

Have a nice week a head.

Hello 2014

I hope it is still not too late for me to wish everyone a good "Happy New Year". How's your new year celebration? Mine? I had a full 5 days of relax; free from work stress. We went back to my husband's hometown and ya Allah, nikmatnya terasa sangat. For the first time in my life that I was totally worried-free. I switched off my phone. No actually, Maxis 3G line was superbly bad at Kodiang hence I do not receive any emails alert. The weather was good - bright sunny day throughout our 5 days of stay. I feel peace!

This was my everyday view. So peaceful!

The plan was to make a day trip to Langkawi but unfortunately, the weather doesn't permit us. Not that it rains but according to my mother-in-law, the wind was so strong that it's not safe to go there at the moment. Note: Tsunami happened during year end remember?

So we decided to just stay in and enjoy the view with the strong wind as if we were on a beach holiday.

Anyway, looking back at 2013, there were a lot of things happened on that year. It wasn't a good year for me. 2013 was a year where I broke down, demotivated, lost at some point, hated myself at some point, being impatient and in short, I wasn't being myself most of the time. I allowed myself to be controlled by my emotions. I'm back to becoming a stubborn me. To summarize, I hated myself in 2013.

However, it wasn't all bad throughout the 365 days. It has it good days too. I managed to traveled to few places - Sydney and Bangkok. Got promoted (biggest achievement, Alhamdulillah). Started to pay my PTPTN loan again after 2 years of not paying them and started to put in money in my ASB account (again!). These two activities happened in quarter 4 of 2013 (LOL). That's all! See, I didn't do much in 2013. I was busy being emotional.

So in 2014, I have set few goals that I hope to achieve. I don't normally set any new year resolutions but these are the things that I wish to accomplish by year end.

  1. I hope I can finally settle down with a house. I've been doing some survey and I have set few potential locations but somehow, I am not confident enough to sign the paper. Research is still in progress so, we'll see how.
  2. To continue saving - means I have to put in money in my ASB account every single month. Biar pon sikit janji ada. I believe in "sikit-sikit, lama-lama jadi bukit". The aim is not to collect RM10K by year end but instead to create the saving habit in me.
  3. To finally complete with my Masters so that I can graduate in 2015 (estimated graduation month: March 2015, Insya Allah)
  4. To spend more quality time with my lil muchkin which was lacking in 2013. Poor girl! I'll make it up to you girl, I promise!
  5. Most importantly, I want to be close to my Creator the Almighty. I have been neglecting my responsibility as a Muslimin and I hope this year, that area can be improved which leads me to being more patience, strengthen my faith, more rational in thinking and Sabar!
  6. And finally, to spend more quality time with my family - both sides. Mak mertua dah complain balik Kedah jarang-jarang. So 2014, insya Allah, kerap balik.
These are all achievable. Tak susah pon. All it needs is consistency. Insya Allah, I can do this.

I hope 2014 will be a good year for everyone despite the increasing cost of living. Happy new year my friends. Enjoy the coming 362 days of 2014.
