Welcome to the world Iman Alexandria

Alhamdulillah, I have safely gave birth to a baby girl on 27th December 2011, 8.35am at Ampang Puteri Specialist through normal delivery.

Baby's weight: 2.97kg

Currently suffering from bekung, mandi daun apa ntah, minyak yang super busuk baunya seperti bau Jalan Masjid India and the pain from down south. But it's all worth the pain.

The perfect way to end my 2011. Syukur Alhamdulillah.

Note for my lil precious

My dearest baby,

I know that you're comfortable living in Ibu's womb. You feel safe and loved for I have been carrying you around with me with tender care and make sure that you feel forever safe with me.

I have been nothing but feeling excited, waiting patiently for your delivery. And you would be surprised to see how excited your Papa is, talking to you everyday trying to calm you down for you have been moving actively inside me. You should know by now how much in love we are with you. Papa plays with your non-stop moving hands and legs every night as they are pretty much visible to Ibu's tummy.

And you should see how excited your grandmother preparing for your delivery and to make sure that you're fully equipped when she welcome you home. Let's not talk about her excitement. That may take forever.

Baby, you're one active baby especially during the night. There were times when I cried for I have experienced serious backpain trying my very best to hold you on for you have been kicking me hard at my spine and for moving around recklessly. But that's OK my baby, I know you're having fun playing inside me. I would do anything as long as you're there feeling fine even if it hurts me bad.

The only way for us to stop you is by having Surah Maryam played by your side and I know that you love the wonderful Surah as you stopped moving immediately. And I also know how you love Nasyid songs. When Papa had it played, you moved along with the song and it makes you sleep longer. I know that you're in peace.

You put smile to our face every time we see you during my check-ups. I see your chubby looking face and I'm thankful for you have been a good baby inside me - being healthy that is as I thought that I might lost you during the first trimester as I was not in a good condition. Syukur Alhamdulillah we survived it together. You're one strong baby.

You're now at the prefect position to see the world. As my gynae puts it - it's anytime soon now.

I'm counting days, hours and minutes waiting for your delivery. I know that you're super happy inside me but Papa and I, we couldn't be more happier to welcome you in our arms. I pray everyday that I can see you soon. I pray that we can see each other sooner than expected but baby, please know that I want the best for you. So no pressure.

I shall wait patiently. We shall see each other soon, Insyaallah.

Love you baby,
Ibu and Papa

Eh! Eh! Eh! Ini bukan bag cabut lari.

I am almost packed - I think! I got almost everything that I needed but the bag is still being unzipped and still park nicely in my room. I should be putting this bag in the car by now. But I keep on putting things into it almost everyday. Ada je barang yang dipunggah dah diletak balik dalam bag. Haish!

Checklist:-
Kain sarung
Tops for me to wear
Socks
Sweater
Toiletries + towel
Kotex oversized pads - for the after birth
3 pairs of baby newborn clothes
Baby's rompers - I don't want to use the one provided by the hospital. Tak chomel. *tehee*
5 pieces of baby's newborn pampers
Baby's travel pack toiletries - in case of emergency
Baby's bekung (small cloth to wrap baby's belly)

Guess that's about it. Ke ada lagi yang tertinggal?

At 33 weeks & 6 days

Taken during Hazira's Wedding reception

Weight: 62.5 kg (before pregnancy = 49kg). I gained 13.5kg in total.
Baby's weight (as of Saturday, 26 November 2011): 2.1kg
Baby's length: I seriously don't know how to read what's written in the pink book - FL, AC, etc - WTH?

Alhamdulillah, both ibu and baby are in a very good condition - no complications so far. Belum experience being bengkak-bengkak lagi (hopefully won't be till delivery) but I feel huge and heavy. I can't fit into any of my clothes now not even husband's (ohh, my husband is buncit and gemok hence I'm wearing his t-shirts as my pyjamas) but now I can't fit into his shirts no more.

My belly is now pooping like nobody's business. Pakai apa-apa baju pon dah tak boleh nak cover. Everyone seems to be having fun playing with my belly especially my colleagues. They keep on pressing my belly as if it's a click button to the baby. Hadooi.

I have problems with my bladder. I can't seem to be controlling the system. Often that I pee during sleep *malu big time* but after consulting with my gynae, he said that it's pretty normal for pregnant women to pee during sleep. He advised me to wake up at 3am everyday to pee even if I don't feel like pee-ing. The pressure from baby may sometimes caused the pee-ing.

I drink a lot and my body's temperature is quite high and it causes nose bleed.

I experience back pain pretty often. I even lay under my office table sometimes to ease the pain. Luckily it happens during lunch hour so no one notice where I am. I'm having difficulty to sleep due to the pain. I can't sit too long or walk to much. I have to apply gamat oil every night to ease the pain and I'm having difficulty to breath properly too.

I walk like a penguin that's for sure but I can walk pretty fast when I'm walking into shopping malls *teehee*

Last but not least, due to hormonal changes, I feel pissed easily especially towards Izwan. Kesian dia jadi mangsa keadaan. Credit to husband for keeping up with my mood swings.

I notice that I'm extra rajin nowadays. Datang mood gila tengah-tengah malam buat laundry and lipat kain. Weekends mesti buat laundry. I seem to be enjoying during laundry too much. Tapi bila datang mood malas, memang malas sungguh sampai mandi pon tak rajin sanggup berkepam seharian.

I'm looking forward to the remaining weeks. Excited much! In less than 5 weeks I'll be welcoming my baby, Insyaallah. I do not do much of baby's shopping. Will do it after confinement. Lagi pon baby membesar dengan cepat and baby's size pon tak tahu lagi. After all, during the first few months, baby bukannya boleh nak melaram pon. Habis-habis baby akan di barut duduk dalam rompers. I bought few of the wajib stuff first. Yang lain-lain nanti fikir.

Excited! Excited!

Maal Hijrah

Yesterday marked the end of the year in the Islamic calender.

I'm glad that I'm able to perform Maghrib and Isya' with Izwan berjemaah and recited Yassin in between both solat. We don't really get the chance to perform solat together everyday. Once a week pon kadang-kadang susah nak solat berjemaah bersama but Alhamdulillah, yesterday we were given the opportunity to perform solat together. Syukur.

I'm glad that I'm able to celebrate the new year with my loved ones; family and lil cousins under the same roof. My favourite 3 musketeers were here yesterday having dinner and messing around maklang's house as if it was theirs. Huru-hara haru biru dibuatnya but it was all good.

I'm glad that I'm caring a healthy growing chubby looking baby inside me. Alhamdulillah. I'm very much excited to meet my baby in less than 5 weeks time Insyaallah. Woohoo!

I'm glad that I'm able to breath and live the life that I've always wanted - to have a very supportive parents (though sometimes I can never really understand them), a very sporting husband (who annoys the hell out of me), a very much emotional sister (she has a very good heart, nevertheless), cool in-laws, to have a stable life (though work do give me headache most of the time) and friends who are there when I needed them the most. Syukur Alhamdulillah for the rezki and rahmah.

There are so many things to be thankful for and I hope that this new year brings happiness and fill with love and rezki yang dirahmati, Amin.

I do not have resolutions as I never really follow. But I hope this new year brings happiness to all of us and menjadi tahun yang lebih baik kepada kita semua. Amin.

#4 Pregnancy Tips - Breastfeeding

Ever since I reached 24th week of pregnancy, I have been very much concern on having the whole breastfeeding thingy. I make sure that I take proper nutrients, taking the right supplements in order to produce sufficient amount of milk for my lil baby, been trying so hard in avoiding coffee though I must say that it has been the toughest one throughout this whole pregnancy process and rubbing/exercising my pair of boobies in order to avoid from being swollen.

Segala usaha keras dilakukan supaya baby bole di-bf sehingga umurnya 2 tahun, Insyaallah.

And to moms-to-be who are like me, very kiasu about bf-ing, here are some good tips that may help:-

1) How breastfeeding benefits you and your baby

Breastfeeding protects your baby from a long list of illnesses
Numerous studies from around the world have shown that stomach viruses, lower respiratory illnesses, ear infections, and meningitis occur less often in breastfed babies and are less severe when they do happen. Exclusive breastfeeding (meaning no solid food, formula, or water) for at least six months seems to offer the most protection.

One large study by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences showed that children who are breastfed have a 20 percent lower risk of dying between the ages of 28 days and 1 year than children who weren't breastfed, with longer breastfeeding associated with lower risk.

The main immune factor at work here is a substance called secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA) that's present in large amounts in colostrum, the first milk your body produces for your baby. (Secretory IgA is present in lower concentrations in mature breast milk.) The substance guards against invading germs by forming a protective layer on the mucous membranes in your baby's intestines, nose, and throat.

Your breast milk is specifically tailored to your baby. Your body responds to pathogens (virus and bacteria) that are in your body and makes secretory IgA that's specific to those pathogens, creating protection for your baby based on whatever you're exposed to.

Breastfeeding's protection against illness lasts beyond your baby's breastfeeding stage, too. Studies have shown that breastfeeding can reduce a child's risk of developing certain childhood cancers. Scientists don't know exactly how breast milk reduces the risk, but they think antibodies in breast milk may give a baby's immune system a boost.

Breastfeeding may also help children avoid a host of diseases that strike later in life, such as type 1 and type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and inflammatory bowel disease. In fact, preemies given breast milk as babies are less likely to have high blood pressure by the time they're teenagers.

For babies who aren't breastfed, researchers have documented a link between lack of breastfeeding and later development of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Breastfeeding can protect your baby from developing allergies
Babies who are fed a formula based on cow's milk or soy tend to have more allergic reactions than breastfed babies.

Scientists think that immune factors such as secretory IgA (only available in breast milk) help prevent allergic reactions to food by providing a layer of protection to a baby's intestinal tract. Without this protection, inflammation can develop and the wall of the intestine can become "leaky." This allows undigested proteins to cross the gut where they can cause an allergic reaction and other health problems.

Babies who are fed formula rather than breast milk don't get this layer of protection, so they're more vulnerable to inflammation, allergies, and other eventual health issues.

Breastfeeding may boost your child's intelligence

Various researchers have found a connection between breastfeeding and cognitive development. In a study of more than 17,000 infants followed from birth to 6 1/2 years, researchers concluded from IQ scores and other intelligence tests that prolonged and exclusive breastfeeding significantly improves cognitive development.

Another study of almost 4,000 children showed that babies who were breastfed had significantly higher scores on a vocabulary test at 5 years of age than children who were not breastfed. And the scores were higher the longer they had been nursed.

Preterm infants with extremely low birth weight who received breast milk shortly after birth improved their mental development scores at 18 months when compared with preterm infants who weren't given breast milk. In a later study, researchers found that the higher scores held at 30 months, and that the babies who received breast milk were also less likely to be hospitalized again because of respiratory infections.

Experts say that the emotional bonding that takes place during breastfeeding probably contributes to some of the brainpower benefits, but that the fatty acids in breast milk may play the biggest role.

Breastfeeding may protect your child from obesity
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding as a way to help reduce your child's risk of becoming overweight or obese. An analysis of 17 studies published in the American Journal of Epidemiology shows that breastfeeding reduces a child's risk of becoming overweight as a teen or adult. The strongest effect is in children who were exclusively breastfed, and the longer the baby was breastfed the stronger the link.

Experts think that breastfeeding may affect later weight gain for several reasons:

  • Breastfed babies are better at eating until their hunger is satisfied, leading to healthier eating patterns as they grow.
  • Breast milk contains less insulin than formula. (Insulin stimulates the creation of fat.)
  • Breastfed babies have more leptin in their system, a hormone that researchers believe plays a role in regulating appetite and fat.
  • Compared with breastfed babies, formula-fed infants gain weight more rapidly in the first weeks of life. This rapid weight gain is associated with later obesity.
Breastfeeding can reduce your stress level and your risk of postpartum depression
The National Institutes of Health reviewed more than 9,000 study abstracts and concluded that women who didn't breastfeed or who stopped breastfeeding early on had a higher risk of postpartum depression.

Many women report feeling relaxed while breastfeeding. That's because nursing triggers the release of the hormone oxytocin. Numerous studies in animals and humans have found that oxytocin promotes nurturing and relaxation. (Oxytocin released while nursing also helps your uterus contract after birth, resulting in less postpartum bleeding.)

One study found that women who had high amounts of oxytocin in their system (50 percent of breastfeeding moms as opposed to 8 percent of bottle-feeding moms) had lower blood pressure after being asked to talk about a stressful personal problem.

By the way, if you're being treated for depression, you can still breastfeed your baby. Your healthcare practitioner can help you identify safe ways to treat your depression while nursing.

Breastfeeding may reduce your risk of some types of cancer
Numerous studies have found that the longer women breastfeed, the more they're protected against breast and ovarian cancer. For breast cancer, nursing for at least a year appears to have the most protective effect.

It's not entirely clear how breastfeeding helps, but it may have to do with the structural changes in breast tissue caused by breastfeeding and the fact that lactation suppresses the amount of estrogen your body produces. Researchers think the effect on ovarian cancer may be related to estrogen suppression as well.

2) Preexisting conditions that may affect breastfeeding

If you have a preexisting or chronic condition such as flat or inverted nipples, breast implants, hepatitis, or diabetes, you may wonder about your ability to nurse. Since your success at breastfeeding will depend on your individual condition and the overall health of you and your baby, there's no easy answer to the question.

Below are some common preexisting conditions may affect breastfeeding:

3) Preparing to breastfeed

How should I prepare for breastfeeding?
Learn as much as you can about breastfeeding even before your baby's born. Talk to other nursing moms, read books to familiarize yourself, call your local La Leche League International chapter, and consider taking a breastfeeding class (offered by most hospitals) some time in your last trimester. The more you know about how to get started and the benefits of nursing, the more likely you are to succeed at it.

Whether you think about it or not, your pregnant body is preparing itself for breastfeeding. That's one reason your breasts get so much bigger during pregnancy — your milk ducts and milk-producing cells are developing, and more blood goes to your breasts than before. (Learn more about how your breasts produce milk.) But breast size has nothing to do with your ability to nurse successfully: For example, it's not true that smaller-breasted women make less breast milk.

Do I need to toughen my nipples?
"No," says Kathleen Huggins, author of The Nursing Mother's Companion. The hormonal changes pregnancy brings to your breasts are sufficient preparation for most women. Don't rub or scrub your nipples — this will only hurt you and make breastfeeding difficult. Teaching your baby the right way to latch on to your breast from the beginning is the most effective way to prevent soreness

What products should I buy?
These products aren't required, by any means, but they can make breastfeeding more comfortable and convenient:

Nursing bras: These bras are comfortable and provide the extra support your larger-than-usual breasts need. They come with flaps that you can easily undo at feeding time.

It's best to wait until the last couple of weeks of pregnancy to shop for nursing bras, when your breasts will be closest to their postpartum size. That said, once your milk comes in your breasts will be bigger. They may even grow another size or two! So keep that in mind when buying nursing bras, and when shopping in person look for a salesperson who's knowledgeable about fitting.

(You can wait until after you give birth to make this purchase, but in the early days after delivery you probably won't have the time or energy to go bra shopping.)

Nursing tops and camisoles: These tops have convenient flaps that allow you to breastfeed easily and discreetly. Some of the camisoles are very supportive and can function as a bra and top in one.

Nursing pillows: Specially designed to support your baby while you're nursing, these can help you avoid straining your shoulders or neck during feeding sessions. They're more convenient — and better at keeping your baby in position — than regular pillows.

Breast pads: It's normal for your breasts to leak while you're nursing, and another baby's cry or the sight of an infant can bring on a gush of milk when you least expect it. Disposable breast pads (or reusable, washable ones) will keep you and your shirts nice and dry.

A breast pump: Even if you're not planning to pump regularly, a breast pump can be a useful tool — to help relieve engorgement, for example. Find out more about buying a breast pump.

Other breastfeeding accessories: Lanolin ointment (available in many drugstores) can help relieve sore nipples. And hot/cold gel packs, which fit inside your bra, can soothe swollen or sore breasts.

Hope this info helps all the moms-to-be who are very much kiasu like me in bf-ing and those who are not planning to do so, hope this may help in your decision making to start thinking to breastfeed your future newborn baby.

11.11.11

It's a good/pretty number that everyone's crazy for. Some (I mean like a lot of people) got married/engaged, giving birth to a newborn child; basically did things that's memorable to them that shall never be forgotten as the date itself is very special that comes rarely even in a million years.

I bet you've read them all in the newspapers/heard them over the news of great events happening on that day. And I have my share of not so great event happening on that significant date too.

My husband had to undergo a not so major surgery to remove the steels and screws that have been living under his skin, attached to his right leg for the past 5 years on this beautiful date. All this surgery decision was made spontaneously a day before because he was too bored staying at home practically doing nothing for having a 10 days leave. He decided to make a visit to the hospital for a consultation and looking through the condition of the bone structure, the doctor agreed to make the surgery on the next day.

11.11.11 was the date I have to wait at the OT's waiting room for nearly 3 hours as my husband was in the operation theater having his leg cut open.

Husband after the surgery. High on morphine.

So there I was practically living at Ampang Puteri for 3 nights accompanying my husband. Bak kata orang utara, cemuih aih!

The screws that have been attached to Izwan's leg for the past 5 years.

Alhamdulillah that the surgery went well with no complications.

Now, this pregnant lady has to look after her husband to make sure that the husband is fully recovered sebab si sang suami adalah seorang makhluk yang super ketegaq.

I'm tired and I need my rest. Sayonara!

And they lived happily ever after

It's been nearly 3 weeks since the event took place. It's been a year and a half since he proposed and the pressure has never stopped since. I'm lucky to have witnessed the holy ceremony of Faiz and Yanti to be solemnized at Masjid Besar Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, Shah Alam, watching my dearest best friend finally, finally be a wife to her beloved husband and I couldn't be happier to be part of the event celebrating the love of two beautiful souls who are very dear to me.

The event took place after Asar and Alhamdulillah, everything went well as planned. Dengan sekali lafaz, they were officially man and wife witnessed by family and close friends. It was indeed a good day.

The reception was held a week after and unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the event as I was one of the bridesmaid. Yes, the 7 and a half months pregnant (then) woman was a bridesmaid of the day, sitting glamorously on the side of the grand dais dengan perut yang tak sedar diri dah boyot, I am proud to announce that I had my heels on. Hey, if Victoria Beckham can wear her 4 inch heels while being pregnant, so do I! *tepuk tangan ramai-ramai*.

To you my dear, have a wonderful life ahead. Banyak-banyakkan bersabar dan belajarlah untuk banyak-banyak bersabar. May the both of you lead a wonderful life together, experiencing the good and bad of each other, to love each other through thick and thin, sickness and health...for eternity, Insyaaallah. Semoga dimurahkan rezki dan diberkati olehNya, Insyaallah, Amin.

I am honestly, deeply happy for the both of you.

Love from the both of us,
Ajie & Karim

Case of Fortunate Event

An aunt from Taiping came last month to hand her eldest son, my cousin's wedding invitation. She was telling how nice the girl was to have waited Firdaus for the longest time and how she never give-up on Firdaus even though he was facing with his own issues then to have supported Firdaus with his therapy and "sickness". She stood by his side all the way for nearly 8 years to see him fully recovered. Alhamdulillah, jodoh mereka sangat kuat, they were solemnized yesterday morning and the wedding reception was held on the same day.

When I saw the card written Normah Salleh as the mother of the bride, it didn't ring a bell at all plus the wedding was held at the hall of my school compound, I was like "wow, sejak bila sekolah kasi buat wedding event?" nor did my aunt inform that her future besan (then!) is the school teacher hence why the wedding will be held there.

Unfortunately, I did not attend the ceremony as my best friend had her wedding reception on the very same day. My parents were there to witness the holy ceremony but were too blur to notice on anything.

To cut things short, Normah Salleh, the mother of the bride is also happen to be my ex-class teacher is now my cousin's mother-in-law.

A small world indeed.

How weird it is to know that your class teacher, who sees all the good and bad side of you (oh, she was my class teacher for two years - form 4 & 5 to be precised! Zaman di mana tahap kenakalan adalah di tahap separa maksima) is now your cousin's mother-in-law. Honestly, I am still in shock!

But if you think about it again, it's actually kinda cool to have your teacher as part of your new extended family - cool in the most awkward way! After all, she's no stranger to you. So, yeah!

On the other hand, my mother found her long lost related cousin at my best friend's wedding who also happen to be her husband's uncle. Another case of fortunate event that happened on the same day, Saturday, 29 October 2011.

Randomism

I've been dreaming about work every night whole of this week and it's freaking me out. I have a life yo! Work isn't just the life I lived in. Kerja, Kerja, go away!

It's pretty amazing to be able to feel the movement of the little person inside you every day and every night. The kind of feeling that can never be expressed in any ways.

It's hard to explain to your partner the feelings you have and the pain you feel during pregnancy. Oh, how I wish that men could experience being pregnant even just for a day so they'll know how physically and emotionally challenged pregnant women are. But I still give credit to the husband though, for keeping up with his super crazy-pregnant wife. So husband, a big kiss thank you to you *muaaahhhhh*

An additional member to the family tree. Alhamdulillah and congratulations :)

I seriously don't understand why kids nowadays hate going to school. I remember loving school so much. It's the thing I look-forward to every day. I love my schooling days. Care-free!

I miss Penang. I miss the weather, the beach, the cheap dvds, Feringhi night market, the ride to Feringhi, the evening drive to the beach, the food (oh, the food!), the night life and every dirty places that Penang has. Amat kerinduan. I miss my Penang life, like very much!

If only I can start my maternity leave now. Sigh!

Sambal Belacan

Kakak posted this on facebook. I don't remember watching this ever interesting TVC on air tambah-tambah lagi when it's for Hari Malaysia. Check punya check, rupanya it was on Astro some time last year and had the re-run this year celebrating Hari Malaysia.

Kudos Digi!

Good Saturday Afternoon

A soon to be married best friend of mine is having hard time with her wedding preparations. A bridezilla she is, we decided to treat her with something nice before officially tying the knot with her future husband. A 2 hours Spa session at Poise Organic Wellness Studio was where we were yesterday afternoon.

Credit to: Poise Organic Wellness Studio

Thanks to Groupon, we managed to grab a worth-cheap ass 75% discount on full head to toe treatment. In way, I got to claim the much needed "me" time that I've been longing for. Only this time, I got to spend it with the girlfriends, how cool is that?! Being pregnant doesn't stop me from pampering myself with the goodness of Spa treatment although I did not get to enjoy the jacuzzi bath / steam bath / sauna but the full body scrub + foot massage + full body + head massage + eye refreshment were the bomb-est! I felt so fresh, light and most importantly, I felt clean after the session.

Before our 2pm session.

To bad that I didn't take photos of yesterday's event. Too caught-up with the "kesedapan". The place is nice. Totally recommended. Oh, it's so happen that the owner is an ex-stuff of SAA. A small world it is. Pi mai pi mai, tang tu saja!

I wish I could have the luxury to spend on Spa treatment every month. Tapi apa kan daya, I have other commitments to prioritize instead of spending just on leisure. Tapi apa yang penting, yesterday was the bomb-est!

How was your weekend? Hope you got to enjoy it as much as I am! *happy smile*

#3 What's eating for two means?

Ever since I reached the 20th week of pregnancy, my eating habits has changed tremendously which explain how tembun I look now. The desire of having food is completely unstoppable. I eat on an average of 2 hours per break. So basically, I'm stuffed with food 24 hours a day. Oh! Ini bukan nafsu ye, ini adalah saya yang dalam keadaan kelaparan.

My food intake consists of rice for lunch and dinner (it's a must!) and sometimes during breakfast too - depends on the mood. I'm always up to nasi lemak in the morning or else the food prepared by my love madre would be sufficient to stand till lunch. Usually it'll be mee hoon goreng, fried kuey teow or paling koman pon 4 keping of karipap makcik depan taman. And by 12.30pm, I'll be preparing myself for lunch - nasi!

I must say that it worries me sometimes as I never had this kind of habits before. I eat, a lot but not as much as how I consume food now. With so, I've prepared myself with the kind of food that I should and shouldn't take during pregnancy to avoid from being over-weight or having hard time loosing weight after pregnancy.

After all, I have to make sure that ibu and baby get all the best nutrients.

Well, it's pretty common for most moms-to-be to be facing the non-stop eating habits during pregnancy. With the food guide I hope that we are able to stay fit and healthy at the same time. Insyaallah!

Selamat mencuba dan selamat beramal :)

And now you're back, you don't get to get me back

If I were still in that phase where everything seems senseless, I would've adored this song to the last bit. But I'm glad that it was written and kept nicely in one of the chapters of my life. At least, I have something nice to tell my children how "challenging" their dad was *tehee* and we survived it, in the most unforgettable way

It's a Wedhok!

Alhamdulillah, we finally got to know the gender of our baby. As our gynae puts it, it's a Wedhok dalam bahasa Jawa. If you're a proud Javanese, you'll probably understand what it stands for but if you don't then, google it out. I was having hard time figuring it myself too. Doctor boleh pula main teka-teki di pagi hari. No, actually he was having fun making us in total clueless since the last two check-ups with the whole Wedhok thingy.

But what's important is that the baby's healthy and in good condition. Wedhok or Lanang is not my main concern asal baby dalam keadaan sihat dan cukup sifat; syukur Alhamdulillah. Syukur to Allah for the rezki, syukur yang teramat sangat. It's the greatest feeling I've ever experienced. Nasib baik tak terjatuh air mata during check-up semalam. Coverline baik punya. It was indeed the happiest day of my life.

Had a major scan yesterday to determine the size of the baby, weight, length, features and all; mana lah tak teremosi mak! Alhamdulillah baby is all good; about 732g  (ter-over weight sikit for a 24 weeks old fetus). I'm not sure about the length though as there are too many mm(s) and cm(s) at the scan results paper and I don't know how to read them but I'm pretty sure that the baby is not that long as the ibu and papa are not that tall after all *teeheee* but most importantly, I gained 6kg since the last check-up. Hah! blame on the scrumptious food I had this whole month of raya. Takpe, I eat for three remember; one for me, one for the baby and one for me again - that's what I told everyone whenever they saw me chewing/eating. Janji ibu and baby sihat, kan?

At 24 weeks

Mulutnya agak sexy (Oh! lihatlah ibunya *teehee*), hidung rasa-rasanya kurang mancung (Oh! lihatlah ibunya sekali lagi) dan matanya masih tertutup (obviously!) but the round shaped face and chubby looking cheek is making ibu and papa very very happy! Alhamdulillah, syukur!

Ok, enough on the baby's update. I promise myself to stay focus on my work today but as expected, I've yet to touch on it since 9 this morning. Hai! work has been hell and I'm totally not in the mood. I need motivation but I have no idea where to look from. Sigh!

Have a wonderful Sunday happy people!

#2 Pregnancy Tips - Coffee for Pregnant Moms-to-Be

I can say that I am a proud coffee drinker. My everyday routine involves me having a cup of hot black coffee in the morning, a nice latte in the evening and nescafe tarik at night. And ever since I'm pregnant, I have stopped entirely in consuming one which is hard for me considering the fact that I am a hardcore coffee drinker and it's unbearable. It's hard, very, very hard!

So, I googled and found this article below which can help moms-to-be who are like me; an addicted coffee drinker in drinking coffee while being pregnant.

-----------------------------------------------------

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists revised its guidelines about drinking coffee and caffeinated beverages in July of 2010. The new guidelines say that up to 200 mg daily of caffeine does not increase the risk of miscarriage or preterm birth. The new guideline was published in the August 2010 issue of “Obstetrics and Gynecology” and is based on a comprehensive review of all published studies on caffeine risks during pregnancy.

According to the ACOG’s Committee on Obstetric Practice, there is good evidence to show that having a cup of coffee a day doesn’t affect the risk of miscarriage or premature births. Dr. William H. Barth Jr., chairman of the committee, told U.S. News & World Report, “Finally, we have good evidence to show that having a cup of coffee a day is fine and it poses no risk to the fetus.”

For reference, an 8 oz. cup of brewed coffee contains about 137 mg of caffeine, while a cup of instant has about 78 mg of caffeine. If you’re pregnant, you should also be aware of caffeine intake from other beverages and foods and count that against your caffeine for the day.

The committee didn’t make any statement about whether caffeine during pregnancy restricts fetal growth or has other effects on the growing fetus.

Caffeine in Pregnancy and ADHD

An early study suggested that there may be a connection between coffee during pregnancy and ADHD. A study found that children whose mothers had taken the equivalent of 10 cups of coffee a day during pregnancy had three times the risk of ADHD. Once the researchers adjusted the results to account for other factors, however, they found the increased risk was statistically insignificant — that is, they determined that even at that level, children born to mothers who drink coffee have no more risk of having ADHD than those born to mothers who don’t drink coffee or other caffeinated drinks.

Previously:

It seems that the connection between coffee and pregnancy may not be as simple as most people have always believed. A few recent studies show that drinking moderate amounts of coffee during late pregnancy may not be as bad for you as we’d thought. On the other hand, there seems to be a definite link between coffee and infertility.

Drinking coffee during pregnancy has been one of those automatic no-nos for a very long time, so a study released in January by the British Medical Journal may come as a surprise. Researchers studying the effects of drinking coffee during pregnancy found that “coffee in moderation is safe during pregnancy”. But is it really?

The effects of coffee during pregnancy is extensively researched – and the results of the various studies into the effects of caffeine and coffee on pregnant women, fertility and the development of the growing baby are contradictory at best. This latest study suggests that women who take in less than 300 mgs of caffeine per day are not endangering their babies. That’s widely been reported as ‘about the same amount of caffeine as three cups of coffee’ – and that’s where things get sticky. Is that a cup of home brewed drip coffee? An espresso at your favorite coffee bar? A sixteen ounce latte? A cup of instant? Each of those has a different amount of caffeine – and it’s not always easy to guess which coffee drinks are the most loaded with caffeine.

Another study in Denmark back in 2003 found that women who drank more than eight daily cups of coffee during pregnancy increased their risk of miscarriage or stillbirth by as much as 300%. The researchers suspected that the reason may be that caffeine constricts the blood vessels, meaning that less blood gets through the placenta to the developing baby. They also suggested that the caffeine in coffee may directly affect the baby, whose developing system is far more sensitive to caffeine than the mother’s. Other studies suggest that up to five daily cups of coffee during pregnancy is safe for your baby.

According to most medical experts, the bottom line on drinking coffee during pregnancy is this: pregnant women should reduce their intake of caffeine during pregnancy to about the amount found in 1 to 2 cups of coffee a day.

What about decaffeinated coffee and pregnancy?

There’s far less research into decaffeinated coffee and pregnancy. Since caffeine is the major culprit in the ill effects of drinking coffee during pregnancy, it stands to reason that during pregnancy decaf coffee is fine. There’s no suggestion that decaf has any ill effects on pregnancy at all. In other words, if you must drink coffee during pregnancy decaf coffee is the way to go. Caffeinated coffee should be limited to no more than one to two cups of coffee per day.

The Good News About Coffee in Late Pregnancy

The Danish study reported in January studied the intake of coffee in late pregnancy – the last trimester. It showed that in over 1200 women, those who drank no more than 300 mgs of caffeine a day showed no difference in birth weight or premature births with women who drank strictly decaffeinated coffee during pregnancy. If you really need that shot of caffeine, you might try replacing a few cups of coffee a day with decaffeinated coffee during pregnancy.

-----------------------------------------------------

So mommies, it's pretty clear now that there is no problem in drinking coffee while being pregnant as long as you comsume sufficient amount per day. And to note that coffee isn't just the only source of drinks that's caffeine content.

#1 Pregnancy Tips

Since I have all the time in the world (bosses are away for client's meeting and I'm not joining) hence the second post of the day. And since I am a super excited ibu-to-be, I'll be posting over pregnancy tips for moms-to-be. Haven't you notice? I've been posting over pregnancy related stuff lately. I am a proud ibu-to-be, don't blame the excitement. I am poyo this way, I know!

So here it goes:

Four exercises to ease aches and help with labor

1) Kegel

Kegel exercises are small internal contractions of the pelvic floor muscles that support your urethra, bladder, uterus, and rectum. Strengthening your pelvic floor muscles improves circulation to your rectal and vaginal area, helping to keep hemorrhoids at bay and speeding healing after an episiotomy or tear, if you have one during childbirth. There's even some evidence suggesting that strong pelvic floor muscles may shorten the pushing stage of labor.

You can do Kegels anywhere — sitting at your computer, watching TV, even standing in line at the supermarket. Here's how:
  • Tighten the muscles around your vagina as if trying to interrupt the flow of urine when going to the bathroom.
  • Hold for a count of four, then release. Repeat ten times. Try to work up to three or four sets about three times a day.
2) Pelvic Tilt or Angry Cat

This variation of the pelvic tilt, done on all fours, strengthens the abdominal muscles and eases back pain during pregnancy and labor.
  • Get down on your hands and knees, arms shoulder-width apart and knees hip-width apart, keeping your arms straight but not locking the elbows.
  • As you breathe in, tighten your abdominal muscles and tuck your buttocks under and round your back.
  • Relax your back into a neutral position as you breathe out.
  • Repeat at your own pace, following the rhythm of your breath.

3) Squat

It may not be the most elegant position, but squatting is a time-honored way of preparing for and giving birth. This exercise strengthens your thighs and helps open your pelvis.

  • Stand facing the back of a chair with your feet slightly more than hip-width apart, toes pointed outward. Hold the back of the chair for support.
  • Contract your abdominal muscles, lift your chest, and relax your shoulders. Then lower your tailbone toward the floor as though you were sitting down on a chair. Find your balance — most of your weight should be toward your heels.
  • Take a deep breath in and then exhale, pushing into your legs to rise to a standing position.
4) Tailor or Cobbler Pose

This position can help open your pelvis and loosen your hip joints in preparation for birth. It can also improve your posture and ease tension in your lower back.
  • Sit up straight against a wall with the soles of your feet touching each other (sit on a folded towel if that's more comfortable for you).
  • Gently press your knees down and away from each other, but don't force them.
  • Stay in this position for as long as you're comfortable.
Remember to start slowly and work at your own level for each exercise.

So there you go. I did most of the exercises during the weekends. At least I tried too lah! But I did a lot of walking as part of my daily exercise. I make sure that I walk either inside the office building or during lunch hour. Tapi jangan lah sampai tercungap-cungap. And please make sure that you wear comfortable shoes with you. No heels please! Look at what happen to Victoria Beckham for wearing killer heels during pregnancy and you don't want to be like her don't you?

Selamat mencuba!

News moves faster than speedlight

So, my office will be leaving for Taipei on a 3D2N trip this 22nd September. Sadly, I won't be joining the trip due to pregnancy (obviously lah kan!). I did asked my gynea and he said that I'm prefectly fine to travel as long as I have my vitamins and consume sufficient food during my trip then I should be okay! But I choose not too. Afterall, this is my first baby and I don't want to risk anything on it. Walaupun pada hakikatnya memang tak nak pegi sebab Taipei adalah destinasinya. A bit rugi as it is fully covered/sponsored by the company from airfare to accomodation to everything. Ahh! There's always next year right?

Jadi, ceritanya begini. The only person that I remember telling, declining the offer was to the CFO. Itu pun sebab everyone needs to send a confirmation of participant via email to her and I did marked my GM for notification coz she needs to know who's going and who's not from our department. While the rest, I don't think they need to know whether I'll be joining or not.

Apparently, everyone in the office knows that I'm not going and they keep on bugging me with questions on why I'm not joining. Isn't it obvious already?!

Pendek cerita, everyone talks even when you think they won't. It's either a good thing or the opposite. People will still talk.

Ok, jadi ini sahaja cerita merapu saya pada lunch hour hari ini. Sekian terima kasih.

On another random note - I miss the good smell and taste of a black coffee. This is hard especially when I'm planning to breast feed my baby. Consuming drinks that contain high level of caffeine will only lessen its productivity. Hurmmm....

Ok now back to work. Happy Wednesday lovebirds!

1 Syawal 1432H

The Clan.

Ladies of the house

After all the scrumptious food I had during Syawal, I have now grown number of pimples scattered all over my face. Those oily yummylicious food and sweet taste drinks were the course of the unwanted growth. Sigh!

Nevertheless, I had a fun first, second and third day of Syawal in Kedah; just like how I wanted it to be. Alhamdulillah.

And I am now back to the city. To make it worst, I am now back in the office enjoying my day doing nothing. How's everyone's raya doing? Hope you had a fun one too!

Balik Kampung, Ohh! Balik Kampung

Web checked-in to only find out that our seats are on separate. Tak delah jauh mana, just separated by the walking aisle tuh je but still on the same row just that we are not sitting next to each other which is a big deal for me as I am a pregnant lady and I want my husband to sit next to me. Diva much?! Yes, I am. Tapi, nak buat macam mana, dah tak mahu pay extra to get side by side seats, nasib kau lah kan Ajlaa.

Oh, I am so looking forward to balik kampung. To even announce "balik kampung" pun dah put a smile on my face. Excuse the jakun-ness.

For the very first time in my life that I have to salam both my parents a day before Aidil Fitri. Mak was on her senget-benget baju kelawar while bapak was on his short pants and over-sized old shirt as he was in the toilet washing his clothes (oh, my dad washes his own clothes) and I, I was on my working attire getting myself ready for work. Terhiba sedikit perasaan but I managed to take control of my feelings. I thought I would be crying buckets but surprise, surprise, I was laughing while salam-ing them. I guess, I've been a good daughter this year. Alhamdulillah! I will be leaving to the airport straight from work and won't be able to meet them before I leave as they will be at grandma's house to prepare rendang and I don't want to salam them after like 3 days of raya (upon arriving from Kedah). It just don't feel right that way. We were laughing looking at the clothes we put on while bersalaman. We are all good. Syukur!

I managed to make a visit to meet my grandparents yesterday. It feels good to be able to meet them again this Ramadhan. Oh, how I miss them so much. Semoga roh mereka dicucuri rahmat dan ditempatkan di dalam golongan orang-orang yang beriman. Amin.

I am actually killing time here in the office. Cepatlah jam 5pm!

/edit

My GM just released me to go back at 3 pm. Woohooo!

Setahun sekali

Three more days till Ramadhan waves its' hand saying goodbye and how have our ibadah looking so far? I must say that my Ramadhan is on its' minimal. Sadly, I have not being able to perform terawikh this time around. And looking through the condition, I don't think I will be able to do so for the remaining days. But Alhamdulillah, I'm able to fast (with the exceptional of 4 days) with no complications and all and I must say that this Ramadhan has brought so much life to me than before. Syukur for I have been given the rahmah, Syukur for the rezeki and Syukur for the love to be able to embrace the beauty of Ramadhan.

And the best part of all is welcoming Syawal that's opening its' door soon. I am pretty much excited for this raya not because it is RAYA but this raya will be the first raya for me to experience balik kampung for raya like a real balik kampung. I've always been raya-ing here in the city and this year, I will be heading to Kedah for raya. It will also be my first raya as a wife and a soon to be mom. Ahh, excited! It's the first to everything that's new in my life and that is the reason for my excitement. Bags are packed and we are ready to move.

The part where I still have to go to work on Monday and come back to KL on Thursday to resume back to work the next day is not going to ruin my raya spirit. Raya tetap raya!

For those who will be leaving to their hometown soon, Selamat ke destinasi. Drive carefully and please, please stop at the nearest R&R if you feel tired or need some rest. Don't drive with your eyes half open. Everyone wants to go back to their hometown to celebrate raya with their loved ones peacefully. Be considerate while on the road. Safety is what comes first.

And with this opportunity, I would like to wish all muslims, family and friends Selamat Aidil Fitri. Sorry body and soul for all my wrongdoings. Semoga Syawal kali ini memberi seribu kerahmatan kepada kita semua, Amin. And to the non-muslims, Happy Holiday! Don't drink and drive.

The one that stays

Life is not about the people who act true in front of your face, but it's about the people who remain true behind your back

#The Love Stories

My favourite girls

Annual buka puasa with the gang last Saturday was the bomb! Chewah! It wasn't about the food, though we stuffed our tummies with unstoppable in-coming good yummylicious food for berbuka but it was more of the company that was there to enjoy the food with you. Syukur Alhamdulillah for I have been given the opportunity to share my love and life with people that's true to my heart.
